Day 149 of 365. Friday 29th May. Workout 145 of 2026. Day 229 Post Hartmann’s Surgery

Today was a reminder that recovery can still feel productive, meaningful, and deeply enjoyable when approached with intention.

I woke up under-recovered, dehydrated, and carrying some accumulated fatigue from the last training block, so I made the conscious decision to fully honour recovery while travelling to Holland. No guilt. No forcing intensity. Just listening honestly to what my body needed.

Even without formal training, the day was still filled with movement and connection. I accumulated nearly 18,000 steps exploring, walking, travelling, and staying active throughout the day. Sometimes recovery is not complete stillness sometimes it’s low-pressure movement, circulation, sunlight, fresh experiences, and allowing the nervous system to breathe again.

One of the best parts of the day was the meditation on the plane. I put on my own music, closed my eyes, and went inward. It felt grounding and freeing at the same time. There’s something powerful about being able to regulate your own state regardless of where you are.

The sauna and long cold shower later in the day helped reset me physically and mentally. My body softened. My breathing slowed. I could feel tension leaving me.

Food today was also part of the experience rather than something to control. Mortimer’s for brunch which was epic then dinner was Panuozzo, pizza, tiramisu, cookies, and alcohol-free Moretti shared in a relaxed environment reminded me that balance matters too. Discipline isn’t about restriction it’s about awareness and intention.

What stands out most now compared to earlier in my recovery journey is this:

I no longer panic when I rest.

I trust the process enough to understand that recovery is not taking me away from progress it’s preparing me for more of it.
