Day 104 of 365 Tuesday 13th April. Workout 101 of 2026
Today was a milestone day first big hike post-surgery, taking on Goatfell which is a mountain and the highest point on the Isle of Arran in Scotland, standing at 874 meters (2,867 feet). It is classified as a Corbett a Scottish mountain between 2,500 and 3,000 feet.

I set off strong and pushed the pace on the ascent, reaching the summit in 2 hours 15 minutes. It was a tough climb, but I stayed with it and kept moving forward. The descent took a bit more time my footing and balance still need work, harder because I didn’t have my hiking poles but I got back down safely, which is what matters the most.

This wasn’t a perfect hike, but it was real progress.
I spent the day with Lewis chatting, laughing, and sitting at the top together having lunch while I made us a fresh brew on my portable stove. It’s really beautiful sitting on top of the Scottish mountains, taking in all the views. It’s these moments we will remember that make it more than just training.
This was the first proper physical test outside of the gym and in the real world, and I came through it. Strong enough to get up, controlled enough to get back down.

We went to the Parlour for pizza and ice cream for dinner. The food is epic in this place and it was a great way to complete today.

Today was a test and I feel like I passed it well. Six months ago I had to walk with support in both hands and struggled with a 10-minute walk after eating and today I hiked up a Corbett. Next, in a couple of weeks, I’m heading up Ben Vorlich and bagging my first Munro post-surgery.
This is what it’s about now for me taking the work I’ve put in in the gym during my initial recovery and rehabilitation phase, and moving through my developmental phase by getting outside and putting my full fitness into action.
